Cooking gas distributors have said there would be shortage of cooking gas during Tihar festival. They have also ruled out the smooth supply of cooking gas in the wake of price hike in the petroleum products including cooking gas.
The cooking gas distributors have said the shortage would be triggered by the high consumption of gas due to the arrivals of winter season and increasing numbers of marriage parties. The LP gas entrepreneurs have accused the government of not paying heed to the possible shortage of cooking gas.
According to the chairman of Gas Industry Association Sawarmal Agrawal, even after the price hike, there is not smooth supply of cooking gas. He informed that transportation of 40 bullets of cooking gas has been halted at Mathura of India.
"We hardly managed to distribute the gas during Dashain, it is not possible to keep it up in Tihar" said Agrawal. According to him, only 150 metric tons of gas has been supplied daily though there is demand of 15000 metric tons of gas monthly.
However, general secretary of Consumers Rights Forum Jyoti Baniya claimed that gas distributors create artificial crisis for commission. He said that there was adequate supply of gas and shortage would be created due to the government's failure of efficient monitoring. Baniya suggested that service charge and dealer commission should be curtailed and price should be fixed on regional basis.
General secretary of Gas Distributors Association Gyaneshwar Aryal claimed that there was still shortage of cooking gas in the market ruling out the smooth supply of gas in the days to come due to the lack of government's initiative.
