Human rights leaders and representatives of civil society have commented that the government was responsible for the eruption of Gaur incident resulting in the death of at least 29 people. They also said government was too weak as it was unable to find those involved in the killings and penalize them.
Speaking at the face to face in reporters club on Saturday, human rights leader Krishna Pahadi said that some centers intending Maoists hold gun again were inciting the violence.
He also suggested the government to ratify the constitution of International Criminal Court so that criminals could be penalized strongly. Pahadi also stressed that Gaur incident should not be given political color as it was solely criminal act in the eyes of human rights activists.
Kapil Shrestha, member of civil society said 'the government without governance situation' posed a question to the legitimacy of the government. He also demanded the government should issue a white paper regarding Gaur incident.
Similarly, president of NGO Federation, Arjun Karki, who observed the killings site, said the nature of killings indicated that it was systematic, preplanned by criminal gangs. He also regretted that local administration could not restrict the situation despite having chances of handling the situation from being the worst.
Human rights activist Charan Prasai stressed Madheshi Janaadhikar Forum must take responsibility of the incident.
On the occasion, Maoist leader Dev Gurung reiterated that royalists and Indian Hindu fundamentalists had hand in Gaur killings while NC Democratic leader Minendra Rijal said political parties and the government should learn lesson from this incident.
President of Nepal Bar Association Biswakanta Mainali emphasized to the need of unity among the leaders.
