Koirala appointed as PM of interim government

Interim legislature- Parliament on Sunday appointed Girija Prasad Koirala, President of Nepali Congress as Prime Minister of interim government.

Prime Minister took oath of his office before parliament after Speaker of the parliament Subhas Nemwang announced his appointment. Speaking before parliament, PM Koirala urged all the political parties for the cooperation in the functioning of the new government.

Stating that new chapter began in the history of Nepal, PM Koirala stressed that political parties should unite to achieve the goal of establishing peace in the country. Assuring that he would do his best to fulfill the responsibility, Koirala said he would publicly withdraw the post if he would fail to fulfill the responsibility.

This is the sixth time NC president Koirala has become the Prime Minister of Nepal. Koirala had led the former government that was formed after April movement striped king of his power.

Before his appointment as new prime minister by the interim legislative parliament, Koirala had dissolved the outgoing government and submitted his resignation in the parliament.

Speaker Shubhas Nemwang had read the resignation of the PM and the proposal finalized by the eight-party meeting to re-appoint Koirala as the PM of the new interim government at the beginning of the parliament's meeting at 12:40 pm

NC leader Ananda Prasad Koirala had proposed to appoint Koirala as new PM and MPs Mahendra Bahadur Pandey, Dinanath Sharma, Tek Bahadur Chokhyal, Anandidevi Singh, Kaman Singh Lama and Ganesh Shah supported Dhungana’s proposal.
