A day after former chief of army staff (CoAS) Pyar Jung Thapa was barred to leave the country, government authorities again have restricted the governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Bijaya Nath Bhattarai to fly abroad.
The Home Ministry at the request of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) Sunday instructed governor Bhattarai not to leave the country. The CIAA has been probing Bhattarai’s involvement in the misuse of state treasury to suppress the people’s movement last year.
A CIAA source said Bhattarai had informed that he was planning to leave for Bangladesh. Governor Bhattarai was scheduled to leave for Dhaka to attend the 36th meeting of the Asian Clearing Union (ACU) due to start tomorrow.
The CIAA had then written to the Home Ministry to bar him from flying out. The Home Ministry this morning sent a notice to Bhattarai’s residence asking him not to leave the country.
