Minister of Industry, Commerce and Supplies Shyam Sundar Gupta on Sonday said that increase in the price of petroleum products can only help to ease the fuel supply in the country.
Addressing the meeting of the Constituent Assembly (CA) to furnish answers about the fuel crisis, minister Gupta said that the government is looking for alternative sources of energy to solve the problem of petroleum products.
He informed the CA that the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has been bearing loss since fiscal year 2001/02. The now NOC owes about Rs 1.13 billion to the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC).
He also informed that the NOC has been distributing only 2,300 kiloliters daily whereas the daily fuel demand of the country is 3,500 kiloliters.
The NOC used to provide 3,300 kiloliters petrol daily before the fuel crisis.
On Thursday, the CA had directed the government to furnish answers on the ongoing fuel and food crisis.
