A Parliamentary Committee regarding Labor and Industrial Relation sought reasons of petrol price hike from Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supply Shyam Sundar Gupta.

The Committee also interrogated Gupta why his ministry was not taking initiative for smooth supply of petrol. Answering the queries of the Committee, Gupta said the decision of price hike was taken as per the agreement reached with Petroleum Dealers Association. He also ruled out the rolling back of the new price adjustment claiming that petrol supply would resume smoothly after a few days.

He also informed the Parliamentary Committee that he was carrying out a serious study on the existing irregularities and adulteration in the petroleum products.

Minister Gupta presented before the Committee as the Committee sent letter to the Prime Minister Girija Prasad Kiorala and Speaker Subas Nembang about Minister Gupta's denial to the Committee's interrogation call for four times.

The member of the Committee has also sought clarification why he remained apathetic to Committee's interrogation call. In response, Minister Gupta had replied it was not intentional but due to the other ministerial works.
