The British Gurkha Welfare Society (BGWS), an ex-Gurkha soldiers' association is to launch fresh legal battle for equal rights of the ex-Gurkhas in British and those in the service.
Organizing a press in the capital on Monday, BGWS informed this. Tekendra Dal Dewan, president of the BGWS said that they would move British court and also appeal to International Court of Justice for equal rights of the Gurkhas on par to their British counterparts.
He also said they were currently engaged in preparation of a lawsuit against the discrimination against the Gurkhas. He said the recent announcement of the British government to provide pension equal to that of the British citizens, was discriminatory.
According to him, a 1997 recruited is now serving his tenth year in the service, meaning there is not a single person who is eligible to claim the pension announced.
Ex Gurkhas have been saying that recent announcement of British government to provide pension on par with the facilities enjoyed by other British army is applicable only to those who joined the army after 1997.
According to them, the decision of British government would benefit only 600 Gurkhas while 40,000 pensioners who retired before the cut-off date would be deprived of this provision.
