Nepal records a historic growth in tourist arrivals

Tourist arrivals have been significantly increased in Nepal in 2007. Nepal witnessed the presence of some 550,000 tourists last year. Among them, 360,350 used air flights while others by the land to enter the country.

According to Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), in 2006, the number of tourists entered Nepal through air was 283,516 in total which swelled by 27.1 percent than last year. According to the Immigration Department, 153,000 tourists arrived Nepal by bus.

Nepal had marked 1998 to spray a positive image of Nepal for tourism. Due to a decade-long conflict, the tourist arrivals in Nepal saw up and down. But after the management of insurgency, the tourism is being revived in Nepal.

NTB record shows that 463,000 tourists had visited Nepal in 2000 which declined to 361,237 in 2001 and 275, 468 in 2002. Though the number augmented again to 338,132 in 2003 and 385,297 in 2004 it was decreased to 375,398 in 2005. It rose up again to 383,926 in 2006.

Most of the tourists come to Nepal from India, Britain, Japan, Germany, the United States, France, Spain, China, South Korea, Italy and Australia.

Following the optimistic growth of tourist arrivals, the international airlines have shown interest to launch airline services in Nepal.  Only 12 international airlines were providing service during the conflict while the number of airlines being operated at presents has nearly been multiplied.
