The Indian government has decided to deploy additional security forces along the border bordering Nepal and monitor activities in the areas through a computerized system.
According to reports, Tilak Kak, Director General of Border Security Force (BSF), announced the border with Nepal would be made "peaceful" and "crime-free" by the end of 2008.
DG Kak informed they would soon recruit additional personnel for the purpose. He also revealed that they have already initiated necessary work to develop computer network to help monitor activities along the border areas.
The Indian Government has not been able deploy BSF along 200 km of the total 1,751 km stretch of Nepal-India border. DG Kak informed that BSF would be deployed all on Nepal-India border by the end of 2008.
He said that advanced monitoring devices would be used to curb criminal activities like arm smuggling, human trafficking and the smuggling of counterfeit currency, among others, in the border area. "All statistics and pictures of human traffickers as well as other criminals would be recorded once the advanced system is in place," he added.
According to him, the work of computer networking for effective monitoring of criminal activities will be completed by 2008. All BSF posts would be equipped with Wide Area Network (WAN) and a remote sensing surveillance would be set up at BSF Academy in Shreenagar. Likewise, there will be video conference facility at BSF Head Quarters, Regional Offices and Battalions.
DG Kak said that the Indian Government would set up additional 210 BSF posts along the border with Nepal and Bhutan. The Indian authority has already set up 372 of the total 582 BSF posts with the two countries.
