US ambassador to Nepal James F Moriarty on Wednesday said that the United States of America wishes to see Nepal a peaceful democratic nation.
Speaking at a welcome programme organised by the Triyuga Commerce Union in Udaypur, Moriarty said, "Nepalese people wish to see the establishment of a peaceful democracy in the nation. We will always support their desire. Three years earlier, the situation in Nepal was different. However, now the situation here is gradually improving."
Moriarty added that he had found Nepal to be the best place of his posting. In his speech he, however, refrained from saying about the Maoist issue.
Meanwhile, Maoist-affiliated activists of the Young Communist League (YCL) staged a demonstration in front of the stadium for about two hours and chanted anti-Moriarty slogans.
While the YCL activists were protesting, locals, traders and workers gave a warm welcome to Moriarty.
Earlier, at another function Moriarty handed over items worth Rs 500,000 including computers, printers and other things to the Chuhade-based Jana Jyoti higher secondary school in Triyuga municipality.
