The government of Japan on Tuesday has decided to provide grant aid assistance of $8.23 million (equivalent to Rs 603 million) to help achieve international goal of "Education for All by 2015" to Nepal.
The grant assistance will be utilized for the project for construction of primary schools in support of “Education for All, Phase II”. Earlier, Japan had supported in construction of classrooms under the project of "Basic and Primary Education Program (BPEP)-I/II and "Education for All, Phase I".
Mr. Tatsuo Mizuno, ambassador of Japan to Nepal, and Rameshwor Prasad Khanal, secretary at Ministry of Finance signed and exchanged notes to this effect.
According to a press release issued by the Embassy of Japan in Kathmandu, under this grant, Japan is planning to provide 370 classroom buildings, 362 toilets, 90 water supply facilities, and 11,420 sets of classroom furniture in eight districts (Baglung, Dhading, Gulmi, Kaski, Lalitpur, Palpa, Rupandehi and Surkhet).
“The major objective of the Project is to help enhance access to primary education and improve the quality of education through the provision of education infrastructures in line with the Nepalese National Plan of Actions for achieving universal primary education by 2015," stated the press release.
Japan has been conducting many education programs in Nepal to help Nepalese children in access to education and quality education.
