Japan has extended a grant of Yen 5,759,761 equivalent to Rs. 3,409,779 for the forest conservation in remote village of Myagdi and parbat districts. Institute for Himalayan Conservation (IHC), a Japanese NGO will be in charge of using the sum for the implementation of a Project for Forest Conservation in those districts.
The grant will be utilized for community-based development of villages through forest conservation and forest-based income generation activities. For this purpose, nurseries, established during the previous project period in Narchyang and Salija VDCs of Myagdi and Parbat Districts, will be expanded, press release said.
IHC will also provide training on forest management, as well as extend facilities to promote the utilization of local materials for income generating activities.
According press release, IHC had implemented a similar project in JFY2005 under the same scheme, and this is the support of the second phase.
Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects is a scheme to provide financial assistance for social and economic development and emergency humanitarian assistance projects being undertaken by Japanese NGOs in developing countries and regions, said the press release.
