The Government of Japan has agreed to extend a cultural grant assistance of Japanese Yen 26,600,000 equivalent to sixteen million and thirteen thousand Nepalese rupees (NRs. 16,013,000) to Nepal for the improvement of television programs of Nepal Television Corporation.
Tsutomu Hiraoka, Ambassador of Japan to Nepal and Vidyadhar Mallik, Secretary at the Ministry of Finance of the Government of Nepal signed and exchanged the notes on behalf of their respective governments on Friday.
“The grant assistance has been extended for procuring necessary programs to further enhance TV broadcasting of Nepal Television Corporation, thus enabling Nepal Television Corporation to promote culture and education in Nepal,” said a press release issued by the Japanese Embassy in Nepal.
Speaking on the occasion, Hiraoka expressed hope that the extended grant would contribute to the further promotion of cultural and educational activities in Nepal.
Hiraoka also hoped that this support would also help strengthen the existing friendly and cooperative relationship between two countries.
Since Fiscal Year 1977 of Japan, the Government of Japan has been providing equipment to 16 different organizations in Nepal under this scheme, the cultural grant assistance which include Paleo-magnetic Equipment to the Central Department of Geology of the Tribhuvan University, Display Equipment to the National Museum, Offset Printing Machine to the Royal Nepal Academy, Sports Equipment to the National Sports Council, Microfilm and Book Binding Equipment to Nepal National Library and the Central Library of Tribhuvan University.
BESSHO to arrive Nepal on Monday
Koro BESSHO, Director-General of International Cooperation Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, is arriving Nepal on a three-day working visit for the purpose of familiarizing himself with overall development issues of Nepal.
According to a press release issued by Japanese Embassy in Nepal on Firday, BESSHO will arrive in Kathmandu on 19 March and depart on 21 March.
During his visit, BESSHO will pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala and will also meet with other senior government officials of Nepal. He will also visit some economic cooperation projects supported by the Government of Japan like the project for the Construction of Sindhuli Road, said the release.
