Japan's Cabinet has approved a dispatch of six servicemen to a United Nations Mission In Nepal (UNMIN) monitoring Maoist combatants camps in Nepal.

AP reported that Chief Cabinet Secretary Yasuhisa Shiozaki said the dispatch to the UN mission underscored Japan's commitment to cooperate for peace and democracy in Nepal.

The report quoted a defense ministry official as saying that the six officers, who would not be in uniform or armed, would head to Nepal later this month for a year long mission.

Nepal, under UN supervision, has begun disarming thousands of communist rebels and locking up their weapons in seven camps.
