Though life in various districts of eastern Terai has been affected on Tuesday due to the resumption of banda (general strike) called by Madeshi Janaadhikar forum (MFJ), banda has not affected Jhapa. Sunsari and Ilam districts also saw sporadic effect of banda.
Jhapa Chamber of Commerce and Industry had declared Jhapa as banda prohibited district. In Sunsari also, various trade unions affiliated with political parties have defied banda. The unions affiliated with CPN-UML, Nepali congress, Nepali Congress (Democratic), CPN-Maoist and People’s Front had decided to take initiative of defying banda.
Vehicles have been plying to eastern parts from Inaruwa across east-west highway and western parts from Duhabi across Koshi highway. Similarly vehicles are reported to have been plying in Ilam district also.
However banda has affected life in Morang, Janakpur, mahottari, Sarlahi, Bara and Saptari districts leaving the vehicular movement halted.
MJF has launched strike for the indefinite period from Tuesday in 22 districts of Terai accusing the government of not meeting the first condition of talks. MFJ has been demanding the resignation of home minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula as the first condition of talks.
The transport entrepreneurs on Monday had decided to operate vehicles after the government assured them that the government would guarantee the security.
