The meeting of Joint Monitoring Coordination Committee (JMCC) held on Thursday failed to fix the date to begin the second phase of verification of People's Liberation Army (PLA).
The meeting held at Summit Hotel in Lalitpur concluded with the decision to hold another meeting on Monday to take a formal decision in this regard. JMCC comprises representatives of the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN), Nepali Army (NA) and the Maoists. Monday’s meeting is expected to decide on the date for the second phase verification.
In the meeting, the United Nation representatives presented a draft framework on beginning the second phase of Maoist army verification. The draft report mainly dwells on the issue of how to jumpstart the second phase verification of the Maoist army and what is to be done with under aged (below 18) Maoist combatants living in the cantonments, among other things.
