Japan approves 537.5 million non-project grant aid

The Government of Japan has approved the utilization of Rs. 537.5 million under the counterpart fund of non-project grant aid to be utilized in the twelve projects in Nepal including the reconstruction, rehabilitation and development of rural areas.

As for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Development of Rural Areas, Rural Infrastructure seventy one suspension/suspended bridges will be replaced with steel decks and twenty-three suspension bridges will be rehabilitated on trails located in 30 districts.

Likewise, the grant aid will be utilisaed to upgrade and maintain the road network in Sindhuli Bazar – Bardibas Section, rural electrification in Illam, safe drinking water projects in Sarlahi, Rautahat, Parsa, Dang and Kailali Districts.

The fund will also help to control water induced disaster in Mugling-Narayanghat Highway and Sindhuli Road, provide Dalit scholarship for primary schools in disadvanted districts, and help in agriculture sector.

As of Japanese Fiscal Year 2006, during a period of four (4) fiscal years, the Government of Japan has extended a total amount of 4.4 billion Japanese Yen to the Government of Nepal under the Non-Project Grant Aid Assistance.
