For the first time in history, vehicles have reached to the far-flung and remote Kalikot district which has delighted the inaccessible life of the local residents.
On Monday, a pickup van, one crane, one bulldozer and three tractors, all belonging to Nepali Army reached to Bharta and Poripali VDCs in Kalikot district.
The vehicles were departed from Birendranagar of Surkhet and reached Poripali VDC, a bordering village near Bharta VDC and district headquarters Manma.
The vehicles arrived via the much talked about Karnali Highway that stretches for 141 kilometers, till to their new destination.
Delighted locals of Poripali welcomed the vehicles with garlands and vermilion powder upon arrival.
The fleet also carried parts for a readymade bailey-bridge to be set over the local Tilanadi river at Serighat. The government's last fiscal year budget had targeted completion of the Karnali Highway by the end of January 2007.
According to Colonel Hikmat Bahadur Chand, Coordinator of Highway Construction Workforce, vehicles including mini-trucks can pass from district headquarters Manma through a 175 km distance till Bhainsegauda of Jubitha, once the bailey bridge is set.
Chand further said that in the following couple of months, the vehicles could reach Jumla.
