The district administration office (DAO) of Kapilvastu on Monday continued indefinite curfew, which it imposed from 1:30 pm on Sunday in Kapilvastu Municipality and surrounding villages after the protests turned violent following the killing of a local politician Mohit Khan by an unidentified gang in the morning.
According to reports, the death toll in Kapilvastu has reached four as another body was found in Chadrauta bazaar Monday morning. The body has not been identified as yet.
The demostrators on Sunday also lobbed a bomb at an Armed Police Force (APF) team at Chanuata, killing constable, Hasan Puri, who was going to his room after his duty ended.
Reports also said that the situation in Kapilvastu area and Butwal of Rupandehi district is gradually improving Monday.
However, DAO of Rupandehi has relaxed the curfew orders in neighbouring town Butwal from 6 am Monday. A goodwill rally was organized by eight-party in Butwal this morning urging everyone to maintain communal harmony and tolerance.
An unidentified gang Sunday morning shot dead Khan at a field near his home at around 8:15am. Khan died on the spot when two persons who came on a motorcycle opened fire at him near Chandranagar in Taulihawa. He was shot in the temple, chest and stomach.
Khan was chairman of the Democratic Madheshi Morcha, district vice-president of the Nepal Family Planning Association and district committee member of the Nepali Congress. He was involved in the retaliatory group against the Maoists during the conflict period. He was also said to have close ties with the palace.
