Ministry of Labor and Transport Management (MoLTM) has requested Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) to initiate the necessary procedures to open an embassy of Nepal in Israel. The Israel has been warning that it would ban an entry of Nepali workers if the country would fail to set up a diplomatic mission in Israel.
The MoLTM on Thursday formally made this request to MoFA. During a meeting held with Labor Minister Ramesh Lekhak, some days ago, Israeli ambassador to Nepal had stated that Israel has introduced a new policy which makes it mandatory for all labor-sending countries to establish an embassy and depute a labor attaché in Israel, a report quoted high-ranking official of MoLTM as saying.
The ambassador had warned to stop importing Nepali workers if the country would fail to meet this condition.
So far, matters related to Israel have been handling by the Nepali Embassy in Jordan.
According to a source, Nepal has pledged to the Israeli government that it would appoint a labor attaché within the next three months and have an embassy there within six months.
Israel, a major labor destination for Nepali female workers, has absorbed more than 5,000 workers till date. The Foreign Employment Act makes it mandatory for the government to depute labor attaches in countries where the number of Nepali workers exceeds 5,000.
