Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supply Rajendra Mahato has resigned from his post expressing dissatisfaction over the decision of Election Commission (EC) to recognized Anandidevi Singh faction of Nepal Sadvawana Party-Anandidevi (NSP-A).
Minister Mahato has submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala on Saturday. He has rsaid that the decision of EC not to provide recognition to his party harmed the sentiment of Madhesh movement. However, Minister Mahato's resignation is yet to be approved.
Earlier on Friday, his resignation was approved by his party's central meeting. Meanwhile, Nepal Police Minister Rajendra Mahato who was arrested Saturday noon has been released.
The police had arrested 22 persons including Minister Rajendra Mahato, Nepal Sadvawana Party- Anandidevi (NSP-A) central member Anil Kumar Jha and Anil Kumar Jha.
The police had arrested them from the office of Election Commission (EC) while they were burning a Xerox copy of EC's decision to recognize Anandidevi Singh faction of Nepal Sadvawana Party- Anandidevi (NSP-A).
The NSP-A was split a few week back when a faction led by Minister and NSP-A leader Mahato convened General convention without the consent of Singh faction. The convention had elected Mahato as a new chairman of NSP-A. Both of the factions had been claiming the recognition. The EC on Friday had decided to give recognition to Sing action.
