Maoists padlock offices of municipality and VDCs in Jhapa

Maoists have padlocked the office of Damak municipality and some Village Development Committees (VDCs) in Jhapa district.

Independent News Service quoted Pasang, Damak municipal secretary of Maoists as saying that they padlocked the offices as the government started to reinstate the local bodies without involving Maoist in the government.

He also said that this move was as per the circular of party's central command. According to Pasang, they have padlocked the offices of Kohabara, Maharani, Gauradaha, Lakhanpur, Topgachhi, Jurepani among other.

Meanwhile, a team led by Sakir Rahaman, district treasurer of Maoist affiliate Madheshi Rastriya Mukti Morchha has padlocked the office of Bhadrapur municipality. Rahaman said that they would bar the local bodies to deal any contract and the collection of tax.
