As the agitating locals of Bhoteodar hindered the movement of the project vehicles, the construction work at the Mid-Marsyangdi Hydroelectic Project (MMHEP) has been halted for an indefinite period from Thursday.
The locals have been turning back project vehicles carrying construction material from Bhoteodar since Saturday. They have been demanding construction of a bridge on the Bhoteodar-Belghari section of the road.
"Work in the project has halted after MMHEP consultant Fienar JV ordered us to stop work until further notice," a report quoted officer of the contract company DDCJV Karna Jung Thapa as saying.
The report said that after the movement of vehicles was halted, cement, sand, diesel, petrol, iron rods and food stuff for the staffers could not be brought.
All work at the project site was stopped since 6 a.m. Thursday due to lack of construction material and petroleum products and problems in the movement of the workers, said the report.
Accusing the authorities of not paying attention to their demands, the locals have been protesting for the last one month.
The MMHEP Construction work had started in 2001, which is to have a capacity of 72 MW.
