Maoists have refuted the claim of contractor of Mid-Marsyangdi Hydropower Project sating that they have not impeded the construction works at the site. DDCJV, a German contractor responsible for the construction of the project on Sunday had said that it halted the works due to the threats of the Maoist affiliate laborerReleasing a press statement, Maoist spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara said that they didn't have any policy of creating pressure on project employees, menacing them or subjecting to physical actions.
The statement reads-"We also want to inform that there will be no obstruction from our party in the operation of the project in the future."
The contractor responsible for the construction of 70 MW Mid-Marsyangdi Hydropower project had halted the works from Sunday showing the cause as insecurity.
The company had sent a letter to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) stating that it discontinued the entire construction works of the project and it would not restart the works until the security was realized.
It was reportedly said that laborers affiliated to the CPM Maoist had pressurized the officials of the contractor company to officially register their trade union.
The works of the project was halted for 18 days around a month back following the trade union disputes.
Repeated stoppages in the construction works have already doubled the project cost from Rs. 13 billion to Rs. 26 billion. With the latest stoppage, the project will not be completed even in December 2007, a date already 3 years behind the original deadline.
