James F. Moriarty, ambassador of the United States of America to Nepal has said that the Maoists' joining the interim government could be dangerous since they (Maoists) haven't given up violence.

Speaking to reporters after meeting with CPN-UML General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal at the latter's residence Thursday, US ambassador to Nepal James F Moriarty said that the Maoists should be committed to give up violence.

"We think Maoists who haven’t given up violence, in the interim government could be very dangerous," said the US envoy.

The US statement comes on the eve of the formation of the interim government including the Maoists, who declared the end of the decade-long insurgency to join the political mainstream.

The US has repeatedly been saying that the Maoists shouldn’t be included in the interim government unless they give up violence.

"It's up to them to keep their commitments to give up violence," said Moriarty.
