Narayanhiti Royal place has been converted as 'Narayanhiti Palace Museum' from today after Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala officially hoisted a national flag in front of palace and uncovered a board of newly announced museum amidst a function.
The palace was vacated by then king Gyanendra after the constituent assembly officially implemented federal republic deposing Gyanendra from the status of king of Nepal. Gyanendra has left the palace on Wednesday.
Addressing the function, Prime Minister Koirala said Nepal has surprised the world by implementing the republic without any bloodshed. He also said that Nepal needed its own modality of the federalism and not the replication of the other countries across the world as Nepal has its own unique feature.
The PM also asked all to concentrate on building of federal structures in the country.
Members of the Constituent Assembly, senior government officials, politicians, diplomats, journalists and other distinguished people were present on the occasion.
The royal palace is historic one some parts of which are more than 200 years old. The Shah kings had moved to this palace from their old palace in the late 18th century. The new edifice was inaugurated in 1970 on the occasion of the wedding of ex king Birendra Shah.
