Nepal's tour operators have urged CPN-Maoist Maoist to ensure smooth an free movement of tourists during strike and protest. The tour operators made this request on account to the frequent disturbances on tourism sector in the name of strike and protest.
A delegation of Nepal Association of Tour Operators (NATO) requested Dev Gurung, a politburo member of CPN-Maoist not to create disturbances on the free flow of tourists' activities during any strike or protest.
During the meeting, Gurung assured that his party did not have any intention to harm tourists during protests, rather it was positive and supportive towards promotion of tourism industry.
"Our party did not harm a single tourist even during the insurgency. Neither do we have any strategy to hamper tourists and disturb their movement in the days to come as well," he said.
He also underscored the need to achieve a political stability to create an enabling atmosphere to flourish tourism industry.
On the occasion, the NATO delegation informed Gurung that foreign tour operators and visitors were nervous and were in dilemma whether or not to go ahead with their planned visits to Nepal due to the announcement of protests by Maoist. The delegation also expressed worry that this would result in deferment or cancellation of trips to Nepal by numerous tourists.
