Agitating Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN), an umbrella organization of various ethnic communities has called off its two-day nationwide strike beginning from Sunday. The NEFIN withdrew banda after the government urged it to call off the program on Saturday. Issuing a statement on Saturday, the government talks team coordinator and Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Ram Chandra Poudel had said that the government was committed to address the federation's demands on the basis of understanding. The federation and various other indigenous groups had announced the strike alleging the government of not being serious towards their demands.

NEFIN’s major demands include assurance of full proportional representation system during the constituent assembly elections and a federal system of governance with right to self-determination based on the principle of ethnic, linguistic and regional distribution in the interim constitution.
