The dispute over the amendment of Nepal Water Supply Corporation (NWSC) that allows foreign company to manage Kathmandu valley's water supply system, has not seen solution even after the one month of dispute's emergence.
As the negotiation between a delegation of NWSC Employees' Association and Minister for Physical Planning and Works Gopal Man Shrestha on Tuesday remained inconclusive, the agitating employees decided to cut water supply to Singha Durbar and the quarters of all ministers for an indefinite period from Wednesday.
The employees of NWSC went to this effect accusing the government that it was deaf to their demands even after the frequent recalling. They have been seeking recently amended Nepal Water Supply Corporation (NWSC) Act be scrapped. NWSC is soon to cede control of Kathmandu Valley's water supply system to the recently registered Kathmandu Valley Drinking Water Ltd following the endorsement of NWSC Act 2007 dissolved made by dissolved House of Representatives (HoR).
The employees have termed the decision of the then HoR as a move of "splitting the corporation" stating that privatizing an essential resource like water was against the consumers' rights.
As the part of the protest, the employees will prevent NWSC tankers from supplying water and block pipelines supplying water to Ministers' quarter and Singha Durbar infinitely. The employees have said they would continue the protests in all the NWSC offices and also hand over memorandums to all the MPs of the interim legislature/parliament.
