National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Firday made public its preliminary report on Kapilvastu violence.
Though media reports have confirmed death tolls over 30 in the violence that broke out six days back in apilvastu district of western Nepal, the commission verified the deaths of 22 individuals. However, the commission said the investigation was underway.
The violence ensued in Kapilvastu's market place Chandrauta after the murder of Birpur resident Mohamad Abdul Mohit Khan in the morning time of the last Sunday. Armed Police Force was deployed only at around 1 pm after Nepal Police failed to curb the violent riots, the report said.
The report verified the deaths of 22 individuals further stating that over three thousand individuals from 82 families were affected and over 150 vehicles were vandalized in the incident.
Similarly, more than 95 shops were damaged in Ganeshpur, Jagatpur, Krishna Nagar, Chandrauta and Bisampur area while over five hundred houses were vandalized and 1,19 houses were completely burnt, the report said.
The report also commented that proper security measures were not taken by the administration to stop the situation from being deteriorated.
