Following an agreement with the Ministry of Health and Population, Nepal Medical Association (NMA) on Saturday has withdrawn its nationwide protest.
NMA decided to withdraw its protest after the government expressed it commitment to introduce a bill for doctors' safety and to provide security to health professionals.
The agreement has also decided to investigate the incident at Everest Nursing Home (P) Ltd.
According to the agreement, the local administration will provide one personal security officer each to doctors based on threat analysis if the government receives such a request.
The government, among others, has also decided to deploy security personnel with communications equipment at all private, government hospitals with more than 50 beds.
The NMA had launched its protest by shutting down all services except emergency ones in all private and government hospitals of the Kathmandu valley on Wednesday. The protest had gone nationwide by Thursday demanding security to health professionals.
The protest had started after relatives of Narayan Shah, who had died in course of kidney treatment, vandalised Everest Nursing Home and issued threats of life to surgeon Dr Subodh Kumar Adhikari, who was involved in Shah's kidney stone surgery.
Shah's relatives have been demanding compensation, independent probe into Shah's death and action against Dr. Adhikari.
