Norwegian Minister for International Development Eric Solheim has said that he was impressed with the achievements made over the ten months of peace process. He also said political parties should form Interim Government soon to deliver a message to the international community.
Minister Solheim, who signed a contract paper of assisting USD 2 billion for on going peace process in Nepal, was speaking at the press conference organized at Norwegian embassy on Thursday.
Expressing Norwegian support and solidarity on what Nepal undertakes for lasting peace, Solheim suggested "The forming of the inclusive interim government would send an important message to the people of Nepal and the international community on the commitment to fulfill the vision of a democratic and peaceful Nepal."
He also said that political parties should hold Constituent Assembly polls as per the agreement reached between seven political parties and CPN-Maoist.
Minister Solheim also 'challenged' all stakeholders in the peace process in Nepal to invite the women into discussions and give them the opportunity to participate in the decision making process.
Stating that the contribution of USD 2 million was the indication of Norwegian support, Solheim informed 50 percent of this support would be spent for the cantonment of the Maoists.
On the occasion, Norwegian ambassador Tore Toreng said that grant of approximately 34 million dollar would be coming to Nepal during this year.
In his two days long Nepal visit, Solheim had conferred with Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, and also held discussions with Maoists chairman Prachanda, Speaker of Interim Legislature-Parliament Subhas Nembang, UML Secretary General Madhav Kumar Nepal and Maoist chairman Prachanda.
