SC grills suspended NRB governor

Bijaynath Bhattarai, suspended governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Thursday has appeared before the Special Court (SC) to record his statement regarding the case of embezzlement filed against him by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).

Bhattarai reached the Babar Mahal situated court at 10:30 this morning to record his statement before the SC.

A three-member bench of judges Bhoop Dhoj Adhikari, Kimal Nath Sharma and Cholendra SJB Rana on July 2 had asked Bhattarai to present himself before the court within 15 days. On the same day, the bench had granted bail to suspended executive director of the bank, Surendra Man Pradhan, for Rs 50,000 following the hearing.

The CIAA had filed graft cases on Friday, at the SC against Bhattarai and suspended executive director of the NRB’s Bank Financial Institutions Regulation Department Surendra Man Pradhan for embezzling Rs 195.319 million that Nepal had received in foreign aid for financial sector reforms.

Both Bhattarai and Pradhan were automatically suspended from their posts after the CIAA filed the case.
