Nepse index drops by 52.45 points

The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index this week closed at 1067.20 points losing 52.45 points from last week’s closing of 1119.65 points.

Propelled by the Nepal Telecom (NT) shares the Nepse index started with a gain of 55.73 points in a single day trading to close at 1175.38 points and plunged by 40.99 points to 1134.39 points on Monday. Similarly on Tuesday, it saw a fall of 32 points to 1102.39 points. NT shares on Wednesday also pulled the Nepse index down to 1064.01 points losing 38.38 points. On Thursday, the last day of trading in the secondary market, Nepse gained 3.19 points to close at 1067.20 points.

Under the group-wise trading, index of the Commercial group dropped 14.25 points from 1079.38 points while the Hydropower group’s index saw a 7.47 point loss and finished at 1229.15 points. The index the Insurance group nosedived by 47.57 points to reach 833.89 points.

The indices of the Hotel group and the Trading group rose by 1.54 points and 0.1 points respectively from 353.11 points and 210.59 points during the week. Similarly, the indices of the Development Bank group and the Finance group shot up by 11.08 points and 18.66 points respectively to touch 1529.82 points and 1202.57 points.

During the week, 611,095 units of shares worth Rs 643.6 million were traded through 3,536 transactions. Last week, 692,590 shares worth Rs 650.1 million changed hands through 3,649 transactions.

The sensitive index this week inched up 2.76 points to 274.04 points. Trading of companies under Category ‘A’ recorded at Rs 368.4 million during the week, accounting for 57.23 percent of all transactions this week.

In terms of transaction during the week, the top five companies are NT, Nepal Credit and Commerce Bank, Nepal Investment Bank, Bank of Kathmandu and Kist Merchant Bank.
