United Nations Office of High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has called the leadership of Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum (MFJ) and the CPN-Maoist to ensure that their cadres would not be armed while carrying out demonstrations organized for Saturday and Sunday in Gaur of Rautahat district.
To prevent the possible tension, the OHCHR has drawn the attention of all parties to take all the necessary steps. "OHCHR wishes to draw the attention of all the parties to the need to take all necessary steps to avoid a repetition of the tragic events that led to the killing of 27 CPN-M cadres in Gaur in March 2007" said OHCHR in the press release issued today.
The OHCHR has also called the District Administration to ensure adequate preventive measures and pro-active approach. 'Political goals must be achieved through peaceful means and must not be pursued at the expense of the rights of others’ stated press release quoting OHCHR-Nepal Representative Richard Bennett as saying.
