Former King accepts CA decision; ready to leave palace within given time

Accepting the historic decision of the first Constituent Assembly (CA) meeting, former King Gyanendra Shah on Monday said that he and his family are ready to leave the Narayanhiti royal palace within the given time.

Talking to the reporters Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula, who had reached the palace on Monday to discuss royal family's easy departure, said that the decision taken by the CA is acceptable to the King.

Minister Silaula said that the former King enquired about his new residence and security arrangements during the meeting.

Along with Home Minister Sitaula, a team of Chief Secretary Bhoj Raj Ghemire, Secretary at the Home Ministry Umesh Mainali, Defence Secretary Baman Prasad Mainali, General Administration Secretary Dr Govinda Kusum, who is also the head of the government panel formed to prepare an account of the royal property, and the chief of the government panel set up to make security arrangements for the palace and joint-secretary at Home Ministry Mod Raj Dotel, visited the palace.

The government had already sent an eviction letter to the former king and his immediate family on May 30 to leave Narayanhiti palace within June 12.

According to reports, as former crown Prince Paras and his family reside in Nirmal Niwas, former King is not so keen on shifting there.

Nirmal Niwas in Maharajgunj is also Gyanendra's residence where he used to live before ascend to the throne.

Reports said that the former King expressed his concern and refuted false media reports about artifacts and documents inside Narayanhiti palace.

Meanwhile, former King Gyanendra is also said to be preparing to organise a press conference this week to make public his views regarding the decision of the CA that abolished the 240-years-old Shah dynasty turning the country into a federal democratic republic on May 28.
