Today's special session of interim legislature parliament has been adjourned till 11 am tomorrow as the hectic meeting of the top political leaders of Seven Party Alliance (SPA) could not find a common ground on the prolonged agendas of electoral system and republic.
The speaker Subas Nembang announced adjournment of the House citing lack of time for the government to respond to the queries raised by the lawmakers on the motions. The parties had agreed to adjourn the House as an attempt to discard the voting and find the solution through consensus.
The resumption of today's session was delayed as the political leaders busied themselves in intra party and inter party closed-door meeting.
Speaking in the meeting, Nepali Congress (NC) lawmakers insisted to the withdrawal of the motion tabled by the Maoist. They also said Congress would not budge from its stance against the Maoist's motions. The NC lawmakers also urged the UML to withdraw its amendment proposal.
On the other hand the Maoist lawmakers have been defending the motions and urging other parties to support them. However, the UML has been insisting that it's amendment proposal should be endorsed as it could solve the prevailing political crisis facing the country.
In the meeting with congress leaders held today morning, Maoist chairman Prachanda had urged them to agree on the issue of declaration of republic. NC leaders including the Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula and Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Ram Chandra Poudel had met with Prachanda.
