Political parties reach near agreement to resolve existing deadlock

Three major political parties have reached near the common ground of agreement  on republic and full proportional representative electoral system.

According to source, Maoists agreed to declare 'republic' from the first meeting of the constituent assembly.

CPN-UML leader Bharat Mohan Adhikari, who was present on the meeting, informed that Maoists also agreed to increase the percentage of representatives elected through all out proportional electoral system. 

Leaders also discussed on reforming the government. Leaders of the three parties also agreed that the next meeting should include representatives from Nepali Congress. 

Besides Adhikari, Maoists leaders Prachanda and Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal, other leaders Jhala Nath Khanal, Amrit Kumar Bohora, and Ishor Pokhrel including Prakash and Chairman of People's Front Amik Sherchan were present on the meeting.

During Sunday’s meeting, the leaders had reached an agreement to sort out all outstanding political issues including implementation of House directives seeking an immediate arrangement to declare the country a republic prior to Constitution Assembly (CA) elections and to adopt a fully proportional system for the CA, federal structure, army integration in a package.
