The meeting of the council of ministers on Sunday decided to increase the salary of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) combatants by 66.6 percent.
According to the new decision, the PLA combatants will now get Rs 5,000 as monthly salary. Previously they were receiving Rs 3,000 per month. The salary is in addition to their daily ration allowance of Rs 90 per day.
The budget was silent about the pay of 19,602 verified Maoist combatants in the UN-monitored cantonments.
Similarly, the cabinet meeting directed the Ministry of Finance to provide necessary budget for the relief to flood victims, without any delay.
Talking to the journalists after the cabinet meeting, government spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara said that the cabinet made an extensive review of the progress made in providing relief to flood victims in Kailali and Kanchanpur districts.
Urging the concerned ministries to control the black market in daily consumer items, the meeting also directed the Home Ministry and the Ministry of Supplies to immediately make special arrangements for checking the soaring market prices and ensuring smooth supply of daily consumer goods in the remote districts and Karnali region.
