The government and the Maoists have reached in an agreement to settle the issue of People’s Liberation Army (PLA) cantonment management.
The meeting of the Camp Management Committee that was held at Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction in Singhdurbar Saturday, assigned the job of building proper camps to the Ministry of Works and Physical Planning – which is led by senior Maoist leader Hisila Yami.
There are seven main and 21 satellite camps spread across the country. The physical conditions in the camps have been very poor and even the United Nations has been asking the authorities to improve the conditions.
"All the responsibility (of building proper camps) has been given to the Ministry of Works and Physical Planning. Required funds would be released soon," said Home Minister Krishna Sitaula. As per the decision, around 1000 buildings will be built.
Minister Yami vowed to complete the building of camps before monsoon. "Works will start right away," she said.
The meeting was coordinated by Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Ram Chandra Poudel. It was attended by Home Minister, Minister Yami, Finance Minister Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat, Information and Communication Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara and Minister of State for Water Resources Gyanendra Bahadur Karki.
On Saturday, Maoist supremo Prachanda has warned the an indefinite nationwide stir would be staged stir if the government doesn’t make any decision by Saturday to improve camp conditions where its People's Liberation Army (PLA) combatants have been staying.
