In a bid to provide basic knowledge about mountaineering to the journalists, Pasang Lhamu Mountaineering Foundation's (PLMF) week long wall climbing training for Nepalese journalists has kicked off on Sunday at Kathmandu.

PLMF will provide training and organise wall climbing competition (Open National Media-House Wall Climbing Competition 2007) on April 21.

The first, second and third prizes are set Rs. 10,000, Rs. 7500 and Rs. 5000 respectively with a medal and certificate.

Taranath Ghimire, general secretary at the PLMF says, Journalists have to climb to know what the mountains are and this type of training will help them know mountaineering with direct involvement and reach to real source for information gathering.

"Our training will also help them to know about mountaineering and tourism in Nepal so that they could unveil many hidden mountains through media," said Ghimire.

It's a sport that makes one mentally and physically fresh, Ghimire further added

According to PLMF, there are 31 male and 14 female journalists participating in the training who are from Television, Radio Station, Daily, Weekly, Fortnightly and Online Media.

The first ever training cum competition of its kind by PLMF, is organised on the 14th ceremony of Pasang Lhamu Sherpa's escalation to Mount Everest.

PLMF is also going to organise the blood donation program on the same day of wall climbing competition (April 21) to observe the ceremony.
