After a couple of days of rest due to illness, Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has re-initiated his political activity meeting with Maoist chairman Prachanda.
PM Koirala held meeting with Maoist chairman Prachanda Sunday morning and discussed the various political issues.
His meeting with Prachanda comes in the backdrop of growing distrust between him and the Maoists – particularly following the public spat between the two leaders over the issue of activism of Maoist-affiliated Young Communist League (YCL).
After PM Koirala termed YCL as Young Criminal League – when they abducted and held a public trial of controversial businessman Sitaram Prasai – the Maoist chairman Prachanda termed Koirala as the leader of corrupt persons.
Likewise, the leaders of Nepali Congress and Maoists engaged in trading accusations at each other. This had led many to doubt the strength of eight party unity even.
The Sunday's meeting, therefore, is expected to be crucial to clear the air. Senior Maoist leader Dr. Baburam Bhattarai also accompanied Prachanda during the meeting.
Earlier, PM Koirala also held a meeting with Defense Secretary Bishnu Dutta Upreti.
