Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala Thursday said that the Constituent Assembly elections were necessary to secure the rights of minorities and women.
Inaugurating the second national convention of the Nepal Women’s Association (NWA) in the capital, the PM opined that the CA polls would secure the rights of women, Madhesis, Dalits, indigenous groups, nationalities and other marganalised communities.
PM Koirala claimed that women would receive equal rights as men in the wake of the CA elections.
PM Koirala commented that instead of trying to create an apt environment for the CA polls, everyone was engaged in superficial discussions at present.
The three-day convention of the women's wing of Nepali Congress (NC) has started from Thursday.
According to NWA president Meena Pandey, the convention will discuss issues such as guaranteeing at least one-third representation of women in all organs of state; gender equality; and importance and role of women in CA and so on.
Around 630 women representatives from across the country will be participating in the convention.
