Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala on Monday held discussions on the future course of the Nepali politics with top leaders of the three major political parties. The PM met those leaders amid uncertainty over the date of Constituent Assembly (CA) elections.
PM held one-to-one meetings with CPN-UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal, NC-D president Sher Bahadur Deuba and Maoist chairman Prachanda at his official residence Baluwatar.
Minister for peace and reconstruction Ram Chandra Poudel told journalists at Baluwatar that the leaders have agreed to hold a top-level eight-party meeting on Thursday afternoon to discuss and decide on all outstanding issues including the CA poll date, fate of monarchy and smooth running of House proceedings.
During the meet, the CPN-UML stalwart Nepal asked the PM to immediately call a top-level eight-party meeting to decide on the political uncertainty. He also suggested the PM two options to decide on the fate of monarchy.
Nepal was of the view that the monarchy’s fate should be decided as early as possible either through a referendum or through a declaration by the legislature parliament. The two leaders also discussed about smooth running of the House proceedings.
PM also held discussions with NC-D president Sher Bahadur Deuba and Maoist supremo Prachanda.
After the meeting, Prachanda had left Baluwatar without making any comment on the meeting despite journalists' efforts to get his comments.
Earlier Tuesday, Speaker Subash Nemwang and the PM held talks on clearing obstacles to for the smooth running of the proceedings of the legislature parliament.
