In a bid to encourage foreign investments in hydropower projects, a two-day 'Power Summit 2007' has kicked off in Kathmandu on Monday.
Addressing the inaugural session of the summit, the representatives of various national and multinational companies underlined the need to make policies for hydropower investment.
Speaking the same programme, Finance Minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat said that the country was concentrating on hydropower development as the price of energy was increasing in the international markets.
Minister Mahat also put emphasis on prioriting all kinds of hydropower projects in the country
Over 200 people from around the world are attending the summit, including regional and foreign multinationals companies.
India’s top industrial and business houses like GMR, PGCIL, IL & FS, IDFC, NNPC and Athena are participating in the summit. Various government and non-government agencies of India, Australia and Norway are also participating in the event.
Nepali agencies, including government, non-government organizations, private sectors, banks and co-operatives will also attending the summit.
The summit is jointly organised by Indian government's energy broker company Power Trading Corporations (PTC), representative of Nepalese banks, Nepal Bankers Association, and Independent Power Produces Association, Nepal (IPPAN).
The summit was held last year in the same month in the capital.
