Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) is all set to slash load-shedding to 12 hours a day within the next few days.
According to NEA, the power cut duration will come down to 12 hours a day following decrease in demand and supply of 35 MW from the 70 MW Mid Marsyandi project.
Earlier, the country had to face upto 16 hours of load-shedding everyday. Currently, consumers are bearing 12 hours of power-cut per day.
The rise in temperatures has also helped glacial melting for snow feed rivers, from which most of our hydro projects are run. Similarly, power demand for heating purpose has gone down due to the rise in temperatures in recent days.
It is expected that after re-construction of the destroyed Koshi transmission line by the third week of February, it will also help to reduce power cut by importing additional 90-MW from India to the national grid.
Meanwhile, citing that the price of electricity has not been revised for many years despite high inflation, NEA is preparing to hike the tariff of electricity.
According to reports, NEA has been incurring a loss of NRs. 9 billion. In which a large part of loss is due to its inability to collect the tariff from government offices and the former King.
