Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal- Maoist (CPN-M) Prachanda has reiterated that seven party alliance and the leading party of the government (Nepali Congress) are mainly responsible for the deferral of Constituent Assembly elections.

Talking to the journalists Monday in a face to face organised by the Reporter's Club here in Kathmandu, Prachanda said impediment for the formation of interim legislature and the interim government caused by the seven parties has caused the deferral of CA polls thereby leading the nation into uncertainty.

"Sluggishness of the seven parties and the government has delayed the CA Polls, we had enough time to hold the CA polls on time", Prachanda said.

Claiming that the declaration of a republic was within the rights of the interim legislature-parliament, which has the mandate of the April movement, the Maoist chairman further said that even the international community would recognize such announcement.

Restating that the eight-party unity was brought down as a result of the Election Commission's announcement of the Constituent Assembly polls deferral, Prachanda said that republic was "crucial" for the eight-party unity.

He clarified that once Nepal is declared a republic through an eight-party accord; he would have no qualms no matter when the CA polls are held whether it is held on next June.

He, however, pointed out that an alternative to the present state of confusion could be a referendum.
