Newly elected Prime Minister Puspa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' Monday afternoon took oath of the office and secrecy amidst a ceremony at the Presidential residence in Sital Niwas, Kathmandu.
President Dr. Ram Baran Yadave administered the oath of the office and secrecy to PM Prachanda, the first PM of federal democratic republic of Nepal.
On the swearing in ceremoney, Chief Justice Kedar Prasad Giri, Vice President Parmananda Jha, Constituent Assembly Chairman Subash Chandra Nemwang, Heads of constitutional bodies, chiefs of security organs, CA members, leaders of political parties, foreign diplomats, members of civil society and national and international journalists were present.
Talking to journalists after assuming office at Singha Durbar, PM Prachanda said that bringing peace process to a logical end will be one of the main priorities of the government.
He said that the government's immediate priority will be to maintain law and order in the country. He also said that the government will announce programmes for immediate relief to the people very soon.
PM Prachanda, teacher-turned-politician, was elected as PM on Firday with majority 464 votes of CA members.
PM Prachanda's party (CPN-Maoist) had joined the government only in 2006 after signing the peace deal with mainstream political parties ending a decade-long arm conflict.
