Raghupati Jute Mills located at Biratnagar sub metropolitan city- 11 has been closed since Thursday noon. The mills is owned by Golchha Organization.
The closer has left around 3 thousand workers jobless and also sparked huge loss to the industry. The mills produces some 50 tons of jute daily.
Maoist affiliated All Nepal Workers Union has closed the mills accusing the mills administration of carrying out anti-union activities and dismissing innocent workers.
The workers had been warning mills management of launching protest if the management failed to meet their demands. Coordinator of the Union Umesh Adhikari said they obstructed the mills as the management began to dismiss the workers rapidly and also curtailed the facilities.
"We obstructed the mills operation as the administration repeatedly threatened the workers close to the Maoist and even it cut power supply in workers' residence."-he added.
One of the major demands of the workers includes re-appointment of Bijaya Karki who was dismissed three months ago. Karki is secretary of union's mills unit. Along with three other workers, Karki was dismissed on charge of beating up administrative officer of the mills Shyam Acharya.
