'Refugee Identity Card' distribution starts in Beldangi-I

United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the government of Nepal have started distributing 'Refugee Identity Card' from today in Beldangi-I.

They already distributed such cards to Bhutanese refugees in Sanischare camp. It is estimated that distribution of cards in this camp takes more than two weeks.

On average 750 cards will be distributed each day. This is the first time that the UNHCR and government of Nepal have officially distributed refugee identity cards.

An estimated one hundred eight thousand Bhutanese refugees are languishing in Jhapa and Morang districts of Nepal for the last 17 years.
